HOW WOMEN ARE TAUGHt TO LOVE

A self-portrait documentary where I explore cultural tropes that as a woman, encourage me to love others before myself. In this visual essay I navigate a decades long journey to un-learn and break cycles around love, eroticism, and body acceptance. To do this, I put a mirror up to myself by listening to other women and their love rebellions, including my mother’s mid-life love story.

PERMISSION TO HEAL

Creativity has long be known as a healing tool and coping mechanism for navigating change and trauma. With an aggressive timeline of drastic life changes (grief, job-loss and divorce), I took to the most accessible tool for expression at my hands: TikTok. I’m creating a series of improv videos that capture my healing journey as it happens. These un-scripted videos start with me pushing myself to move my body when the sadness overtakes: go buy dad flowers, go to the park, go dance Beyoncé on repeat… I then let the footage and heart speak through the edit as captions and sounds find their way into it. As the series continues, I look forward to connecting closely with the creator community working on spreading messages of healing, wellness, mindfulness, movement, acceptance, and love.
